The Complete Squarespace Blog SEO Pack: A Free Prompt Template

You've written a brilliant blog post. You've edited it, refined it, made sure every paragraph earns its place. Then comes the tedious bit: the metadata. The excerpt. The slug. The SEO title. The meta description. The tags. The categories. The image alt text. Each one matters. Each one takes time. And if you're doing this properly, you're spending 30 to 45 minutes per post just filling in boxes. I got tired of this. So I built something to fix it.

The Problem with Blog Post Optimisation

Most people approach Squarespace blog SEO in one of three ways:

Option 1: Wing it. Rush through the metadata fields, repeat the title as the SEO title, leave the excerpt blank, guess at some tags. Quick, but leaves opportunity on the table.

Option 2: Do it properly. Research keywords, craft compelling descriptions, choose strategic tags, write descriptive alt text. Effective, but exhausting when you're publishing weekly.

Option 3: Use separate tools. Meta description generator here, slug optimiser there, keyword research tool somewhere else. Fragmented and slow.

Three Squarespace blog SEO approaches

Three typical approaches to blog post SEO optimisation

None of these felt right for the way I work, or the way my clients work. We need systems that are thorough without being overwhelming. Elegant without being precious.

What I Built Instead

I've created a comprehensive prompt template that generates every single piece of blog metadata you need for Squarespace, all in one go.

Not just the basics. Everything:

  • Excerpt (30-60 words, keyword-optimised)

  • Slug (clean, SEO-friendly URL)

  • SEO Title (50-60 characters)

  • Meta Description (150-160 characters)

  • Tags (6-10 relevant keywords)

  • Categories (1-3, strategically chosen)

  • Image recommendations (cover image plus 3-5 in-post images)

  • Alt text for every image

I spent time researching whether something like this existed. Meta description generators? Plenty. Title optimisers? Everywhere. But a complete, ready-to-implement blog pack specifically for Squarespace? Nothing.

So here it is. Free, comprehensive, and ready to use.

How to Use This Prompt

Step 1: Copy the prompt template below.

Step 2: Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, or your AI tool of choice.

Step 3: Add your blog post content where indicated (or just the topic and target keyword if you prefer).

Step 4: Let it generate the complete pack.

Step 5: Copy the results directly into your Squarespace blog post settings.

That's it. What used to take 45 minutes now takes 5.

What This Doesn't Do

This prompt handles the technical optimisation work. The metadata, the keywords, the structure.

What it can't do is build your content strategy. It won't tell you what topics to write about, how often to publish, or how your blog fits into your broader business goals. It won't create internal linking opportunities (that requires knowing your full site structure). And it won't replace the human judgement needed to ensure everything sounds like you.

Think of it as an efficient assistant. It handles the repetitive optimisation work, freeing you up for the strategic and creative bits that actually need your brain.

Why I'm Giving This Away

I built this for myself first. Then I used it with clients. Then I realised other people would find it useful too. I could sell it. But honestly? I'd rather it just existed in the world, making people's lives a bit easier.

If you find it helpful, wonderful. If you share it with someone else who needs it, even better. It's yours. Use it, adapt it, share it.
